With record-breaking crowds, festival organisers are looking to build on this achievement to improve the event for next year.

Cllr Tony Skipper, Cabinet Member with responsibility for culture and arts for Coventry City Council said:

I’m delighted we’ve been able to make the festival such a success this year and that’s not only testament to the hard work and organisation of everyone involved but to the public who have supported this event wholeheartedly. As an Olympic co-host City, 2012 will be a special year for Coventry as we welcome, not only local people, but visitors from around the world to the region, so it’s important that we listen to the public and take on board their views to make Godiva Festival 2012 even bigger and better.

The public are invited to give their opinions by completing a short survey online at

http://www.coventry.gov.uk/godivafestivalsurvey

More than 120,000 people visited the Festival, which took place at Coventry’s War Memorial Park from 1 to 3 July, breaking last year’s record attendance figures of 90,000.

This year’s Festival was the first to be organised by the Council, which took over the event from CV One in April.

Record breaking crowds have helped make Godiva 2011 the most successful yet in the event’s fourteen year history.

More than 120,000 people visited the Festival, which took place at Coventry’s War Memorial Park from 1 to 3 July, breaking last year’s record attendance figures of 90,000.

During the three day event, Coventry City Council workers collected more than 30 tons of waste.

West Midlands Police made a total of seven arrests – four fewer than last year. Around seven cars parked illegally in residential streets around the Festival were towed away by the police.

This year’s festival was the first to be organised by the Council, which took over the event from CVOne in April.

It’s been a terrific festival with packed crowds every day. It’s been brilliant to see so many Coventry families having a great day out, enjoying some top musical talent, both local and national and I’m delighted we’ve been able to make the festival such a success this year, despite the smaller space we had in the park,” said Cllr Tony Skipper, Cabinet Member with responsibility for culture and arts for Coventry City Council.

A big thanks to organisers and participants who helped make the Festival such a memorable one for 2011.

Whilst you’ve been enjoying the festival in real life, we’ve been recreating the festival online using lots of free social media tools including Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, AudioBoo, FourSquare and YouTube.

The best thing is that you don’t have to be a member of any of these social networking sites to see what we’ve been doing. Here’s a round-up:

Updates from Twitter

We’ve been live-tweeting what’s been going on and re-tweeting what others have been saying about Godiva Festival too.

We’ve also been lucky enough to go backstage and get exclusive photographs of some of the bands getting interviewed.

If you want to join in, send a tweet to @godivafestival or use the hashtag #covgodiva.

Photos on Flickr

We’ve uploaded lots of photos to our Godiva Festival Flickr collection and we’ve also made a Godiva Festival group to share everyone’s photographs in one place. We welcome photos from anyone and everyone – you don’t need to be a professional – so come and join us!

Soundclips on Audioboo

You can’t have a live music festival with hearing some sounds. We’ve wandered into tents, joined the Godiva Carnival, danced by the main stage and played in the fairground to bring these sounds to you.

You can subscribe to our boos at http://audioboo.fm/godivafestival

Liking Godiva Festival on Facebook

Lots of people have been sharing their photos, memories and suggestions for an even better Godiva Festival.

So far there have been 265 check-ins and almost 6,000 likes. Come on, ‘like’ us – you know you want to!

Checking in on Foursquare

We’ve registered all the tents on Foursquare, so if you’re at Godiva don’t forget to check-in. There are still a few places where the Mayorship is available…

Videos on YouTube

We found the highest place we could to get an aerial view of the crowd. Can you spot yourself?

More videos are on YouTube – including the incredible Zoe’s Place dancing bear!

Visitors to this year’s Godiva Festival can have fun and feel good about their health, as event organisers welcome a bigger and healthier addition to the line up.

NHS Coventry and Coventry City Council will host a family-friendly Health Village, offering advice and information to lead a healthier and happier life.

The village will be open on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 July between 12 and 7pm and is designed to cater for festival goers of all ages.

A variety of health guidance and advice on alcohol and sexual health will be available, along with another chance to give up smoking with the Big Pledge smoking cessation team who will be based on the Health Village double decker bus.

Families will be given the chance to win a Wii-fit by filling in a lifestyle survey to help NHS Coventry improve health services across the city.

A Best for Baby tent will provide mums with a dedicated area for breastfeeding and information on children’s feeding and health, including dental care with appearances from Peppa Pig, and advice on vaccinations.

Families looking for handy tips on how to eat well can get creative at the food-themed activity tent, while a visit to the Health Check Deck will help revelers enjoy the festival with a clean bill of health.

The village has been created as part of the Coventry Health Improvement Programme (CHIP), a three-year partnership programme between NHS Coventry and Coventry City Council which aims to reduce the health inequalities in Coventry.

As the UK’s biggest free three-day family festival, Godiva offers a range of attractions including music, stand up, street entertainment and family activities.

John Forde, acting joint director for public health at NHS Coventry and Coventry City Council, said:

It’s important that we make health a hot topic and attending an event like this is a great way to promote the services we provide.

At the same time the advice from our team on the health services available will help arm people with the knowledge of where to go to get the right treatment, improving health care for everyone.

We’re really excited to be part of Coventry’s most anticipated cultural event and look forward to giving visitors a hand with their health.

Councillor Clifford, cabinet member for health and community services, added:

Godiva Festival is a highlight in many Coventry peoples’ calendar and we are pleased that this year, people will be able to get health advice whilst having fun at the popular festival. The Health Village has advice and information for all the family about how to make healthier choices for life.
